It’s summer time, and millions of Tennis fans are about to spend the next few weeks glued to their TV’s, watching the season’s famous tournaments: Roland Garros and Wimbledon. To mark the occasion, Eurosport unveiled a special French Open app, showing live results and other data. In the US, a new survey showed that younger viewers get their news from Facebook – and not by watching local TV. And pay-TV consumers told an Amdocs survey that they’ll keep their subscriptions if the overall, multi-device experience would improve. Here is what’s buzzing in the TV industry this week.

Netflix in China; Verizon AOL merger; Linear TV Ratings Drop

Ni Hao Netflix? Reports this week suggested that the content streaming empire might soon conquer another global destination- China. However, this may not happen that fast. While talks between Netflix and Chinese TV vendors are taking place, shows like House of Cards, with its combination of sex drugs and Capitol Hill, might not be very popular with the country’s internet police. The Verizon’s AOL deal raised high expectations for the former’s prospects in the targeted advertising and content markets, while according to a new research, OTT subscribers will triple by 2019. Spring is coming, bringing in many new services, TV shows and shiny devices. Apple launched what analysts describe as the next exciting, connected platform – the Apple Watch. More cord cutters were reported in the latest research which measured pay-TV subs, and both Dish and HBO announced new services for their respective OTT offering.

TV News of the Week: Nielsen to measure Netflix & Amazom, Black Friday

It's Thanksgiving, or, from the industry's point of view, Black Friday. All eyes are currently on TV sales figures, with what seems to be a very positive outlook. Earlier this week, U.S. media reported that Nielsen is planning to monitor usage of Netflix and Amazon video, using audio-recognition technology. In Europe, the European Commission is said to focus part of its "investment offensive" on broadband infrastructure. Here's a quick recap of what was buzzing this week.
