The hottest TV industry news this week was taken over by broadcasters in distress who are taking action. A group of top broadcasters decided enough is enough with Aereo violating copyright, and are taking their case to the US Supreme Court. Where does Aereo stand on this? They’re actually quite indifferent. Broadcasters in China are also fighting a battle, only it is to end content piracy and get viewers willing to pay for premium content. They proposed a plan that just might work.

This was the week of CES. CES has been buzzing with smart TV and second screen news. For example, Roku beat Apple in the race towards developing a line of smart TVs. Then again, that’s assuming the Apple smart TV rumors are true. Guess which other unexpected company is entering the smart TV game - Mozilla! LG also made the news with its latest add-on to their smart TV lineup. TiVo shared a wealth of interesting numbers pertaining to the popularity and growth of second screen viewing behaviour.

There has been a lot of great news in the TV industry this week! After striking a deal with Disney, Netflix is going to offer many exciting Pixar and Marvel titles in their library. The Netflix news doesn’t stop there though! After many years of butting heads, they are finally working with US cable providers. We can’t help but wonder if this means that cable price packages will go up.  Numbers that are going up for sure are that of HbbTV users in Europe.
