Four Scenarios for the Future of the TV Industry
July 27 2017:  Established media groups, the internet platforms, or the incoming telcos... Who will be the victors in the battle for the future of the TV industry?

To understand the roadmap for the future of the industry, four scenarios were presented by Florence Le Borgne of IDATE at our TVLS event in June this year. Surprisingly, while the internet is a major source of disruption, it is not the only one.

TV industry

While there are several disruptors and many imponderables ahead, there are four most scenarios most likely to develop, suggesting that we are not so much approaching a crossroads but currently standing in the middle of one. Each has different consequences for the industry. They can be summed up as:

  • Trend - Steady evolution and revenue growth
  • Disruption - Established TV brands replaced. A redistribution of income
  • Convergence - Telco operators become increasingly major players
  • Syndication -Cooperation is seen to be essential: the most favourable outcome for the industry
