What’s new - Reaching all subscribers' devices

OTT devices reach the living room

What was once home only to the household television now hosts connected devices like Apple TV, FireTV, Chromecast and Connected TVs. Users expect more on a TV screen than on a tablet, therefore a top-quality user experience is key. One of the main challenges for operators is the capacity to properly reach all of their subscribers' devices. For that, a robust video player is required, one that can offer the best video experience at 60 fps.

Benefits of addressing all devices with the same player

What’s more annoying for a subscriber than having different application behaviors on the different devices that they use? Subscribers don’t care about platform constraints, DRM support and device capabilities. They don’t understand that Chromecast is supported on Android, but not on Apple devices. They just want the best experience - on all their devices.

At VO, we understand that; therefore, the VO Player uses the same core player on all platforms. This means that the behavior of the video player is the same on all platforms, with no more inconsistencies. Your applications perform consistently and well. Secondly, once a new VO Player feature is available, it is available everywhere, leaving you to focus on releasing the best applications and your other business objectives, while VO Player delivers a top-notch video experience.

VO Player supports more and more devices

VO Player now supports Apple TV. You can offer native tvOS applications with an optimized design, available directly from your TV's App Store. This comes with the native support of Apple’s DRM, Fairplay.

VO Player is available for both Apple mobile devices and Apple TV. We are constantly adding new platforms to our roadmap. Tizen and WebOS support will come later on this year.

Industry News round-up from VO divider

After a long battle it looks like net neutrality will finally be ended in the US on June 11th. While the industry works out the implications of that, adding vMPVD gains into cord cutting figures shows an impressive slowdown in acceleration, and Apple could be about to make a significant change in its TV policy.
