8K display production set for ramp-up in 2018

As the demand for super-large TV displays grow, the need for higher resolution is set to increase, seeing the first uses of 8K display in 2018, according to research from IHS Markit.

While most people would not regard an 8KTV sector as anything other than speculative right now, steps are being put in place to create an industry. Taking a lead in 8K development is NHK who announced at the 4K (HDR) Summit in November 2017 that it would be unveiling the world’s first broadcast in 4K/8K on 1 December 2018. Hidenobu Miyazaki, producer at NHK’s global content development division said the offer would be 4K for 18 hours a day; and 8K for12 hours per day.
