Great to SUX | Viaccess-Orca Blog

With deliberate reference to Jim Collins' "Good to Great".

Simple User eXperience (SUX) is widely believed to be the next frontier in each and every application fields, including the emerging TV consumption revolution. And yet, this remains mainly used as the new buzzword in the industry marketing jargon, mostly confused with sexy User Interface (UI) and cool demos. It is treated at best as a late stage add-on in product development, resulting in user experience theater.

Great similarities exist with what security should be (and too rarely is): designed inside out. From the very beginning we should have the outcomes in mind, with a holistic design approach considering what could happen should security be compromised. It is not about sexy cryptographic algorithms or cool authentication protocols. It is less about designing what should be right and more about designing what could go wrong.

Customer acquisition may be obtained with sexy UI, however, customer retention, as well as engagement will eventually be driven by SUX.

It is about time to adopt a hacker mindset in our solution design to deliver the right uncompromised user experience.
